Stone block on the corner of the Monastery's Cloister where tradition claims that Saint Teresa of Avila stopped to rest during one of her visits to the Royal Site, a symbol of popular devotion.
Empty String
On the corner joining the plazas of the Lonja is this stone block, to which different interpretations are given. The most romantic says that the saint sat on this stone to recover her strength on a hot day when she visited Philip II. According to legend, God sent her a gust of cool wind that those who sit on it still enjoy today. Others suggest that the stone is a corner protector to prevent ox carts transporting building materials and later other tools, materials, and provisions from colliding with the corner as they turned. Another explanation says that it was placed where the water from the Monastery's roof falls, which is why it has that hollowed shape at the top. Finally, it is also said to be an energy vortex, one of many found in the Monastery, which was marked in this way on its exterior.
