Sobre este lugar
Building commissioned by Charles III from Juan de Villanueva to be leased as a block of shops during the Royal Days, with a rectangular floor plan and a porticoed gallery with granite columns.
Charles III commissioned this building from Juan de Villanueva to serve as a "block of shops" to be leased to merchants during the Royal Days.
The building has a rectangular floor plan, parallel to the Casa de los Doctores, resolving the existing level difference with respect to the neighbouring square, then called Plaza de la Verdura and currently Plaza de Jacinto Benavente.
The front facing Reina Victoria street is designed with a forward porch of twenty columns that lead to a covered gallery. The entrances are situated in correspondence with the intercolumniations and alternate in the form of vaulted and lintelled openings that follow each other harmoniously.
At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, the ensemble gradually lost its primitive compositional and formal unity as the number of dwellings increased, growing in height and incorporating characteristic elements of the period such as glazed balconies.
