Ciclamadridis an initiative developed by the Community of Madrid for those who want to enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the region by bicycle. This circular itinerary covers a large part of the municipalities of the Madrid region and is divided into sections that facilitate the journey. San Lorenzo de El Escorial is the reference point for two stages. Here, it is also possible to carry out an urban circular itinerary through San Lorenzo de El Escorial and its surroundings, which begins and ends at the El Escorial train station.
Stage 10:Moralzarzal to San Lorenzo de El Escorial. This stage enters San Lorenzo de El Escorial via the Colada de Collado-Villalba until reaching the Historical-Artistic Ensemble declared a Property of Cultural Interest in 1971.
Stage 11:From San Lorenzo de El Escorial to Robledo de Chavela. From San Lorenzo de El Escorial, it departs via Paseo de Carlos III, enters the Bosque de la Herrería (which is part of the Natura 2000 Network and the Cultural Interest Site known as «Pinar de Abantos y Zona de la Herrería»), reaches the Silla de Felipe II and from there heads to Zarzalejo and Robledo de Chavela, circling Las Machotas.
Urban route through San Lorenzo de El Escorial
Ciclamadrid also proposes an urban itinerary for those arriving by bicycle.
This circular itinerary begins at El Escorial train station. From there, it ascends along the Paseo de los Álamos, which runs parallel to the fence bordering the Casita del Príncipe park, enters the San Lorenzo de El Escorial Historic-Artistic Site crossing Calle del Rey, Plaza de la Constitución and Calle Floridablanca, and descends through the so-called Calleja Larga and crosses the Bosque de la Herrería until reaching the M-505 road.
Following this road leads to the Arroyo de El Batán, where a dirt track is taken, crossing another part of La Herrería, until reaching the Carretera de Ávila, which becomes the Paseo de Carlos III. This section passes in front of the Casita del Infante Don Gabriel. The itinerary takes Timoteo Padrós street, and via Conde de Aranda street and Carlos Ruíz Avenue, it reaches the Euroforum Felipe II building.
From there, going down via Carlos Arniches, Maestro Alonso and Leandro Rubio streets, you return to the Paseo Carlos III, leaving the Casa de la Compañía, current headquarters of the R.C.U. Escorial María Cristina, to the left. Nearby is the viewpoint of the southern facade of the Monastery, and beneath the Arches there is an entrance providing access to the Jardín de los Frailes.
Past the arches, the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial is surrounded via the Avenida de Juan de Borbón y Battemberg, leaving to the left the Casa de los Infantes and de la Reina, the Casa de la Secretaría de Estado (known as the Tercera Casa de Oficios), and the Segunda and Primera Casa de Oficios. Among the latter is the Tourist Office (calle Grimaldi 4). Continuing on leads to the Plaza de la Virgen de Gracia.
From there, you go down the Carretera de la Estación to the Paseo de los Álamos, which will lead us to the municipality of El Escorial, where you can see the Church of San Bernabé and the one known as the Monasterio de prestado, before returning to the train station.

Ciclamadrid connects San Lorenzo de El Escorial with cycle tourism routes through the Community of Madrid. The municipality is a reference for two stages and offers a circular urban itinerary among heritage, nature, and the Bosque de La Herrería.
