Empty string
Located in the Dehesa de la Herrería, to the West of the Monastery, it was commissioned from the architect Juan de Villanueva in 1771 for the Infante D. Gabriel de Borbón, son of Carlos III. Its purpose was to enjoy his great hobbies, including music, and to be able to lead a private life, surrounded by his circle of friends, away from the protocol that surrounded the palace.
It is inspired by Italian villas and its use is exclusively for recreation. It is a concentrated and detached building, surrounded by terraced gardens, treated architecturally, which create a sense of unity as they are related to the building.
In the main room, the dome is decorated with paintings by Lucas Jordán related to music. It was intended as a listening room; the musicians would settle in the upper part and could be heard from the central square of the garden.
Wonderful views of the Monastery can be seen from its gardens.
His Majesty King Juan Carlos I was the last member of the Royal Family to stay in the Casita, during his law studies. This building was declared a Historical-Artistic Monument in 1931 along with the Monastery.
It has been declared a Site of Cultural Interest since 1931. Currently, its management corresponds to Patrimonio Nacional.
